Macgregor CLP-1 Putter by Clay Long (34”)

We have previously sold Mr. Long’s C202.5 prototype mallet putter, but we have a few cool flagsticks of his in queue now, including this one when he was still at Macgregor.

it’s past time to acknowledge this man’s contributions to the world of golf clubs.

The MacGregor CLP-1 showcases the craftsmanship of Long, one of the most influential club designers in golf.

Long’s career spans decades of innovative design, and his rollyourball.com website is a must for any putter focused gear head out there.

Beyond his expertise in putters, Long designed a number of highly sought after limited release sets and one off customs while at Macgregor but it’s his VIP iron series that are most famous.  This design and its adoption by Jack Nicklaus started a decades long relationship with the Bear.

Long was instrumental in designing Nicklaus’ clubs, including the iconic Response ZT 615 putter that Jack famously used to clinch his historic victory at the 1986 Masters.  Yes, that giant thing.

But the Nicklaus partnership epitomised Long’s ability to tailor clubs for elite performers (pro and amateur alike), helping Macgregor keep its rep as a club For good players for longer than it otherwise would have held.

The CLP-1  has an intoxicating shape and the finish is an old favorite that doesn’t have a name, but the putter is raw carbon steel.

Original everything including refreshed paint fill in same colours.
