If you are skeptical that irons from 1953 can truly compete with today’s irons, we of course understand your skepticism. We are not a hickory or vintage golf club store; we are also not a rare clubs or JDM only or any other type of niche store.
We know very very well that many golfers simply find it more logical to purchase irons that are designed and produced by companies (mostly computers + some talented people, of course) who have optimised the irons given current ball and shaft technology. That bias isn’t “wrong”, and we too are fascinated with advances in technology, so we get it and are not on a crusade against irons filled with foam, we dislike how impact feels.
We have offered lots of great performing irons, wedges and putters that were made in the previous 1-5 years to date, and always will.

We shafted these ‘53 irons with 1993 @maruman_golf Vanadium Heavy Duty stiff shafts - one of the most sought after steel shafts ever produced. We don’t care for the majority of what Maruman produces, with the GLARING exception of a few of their tour issued sets over the years, AND THESE SHAFTS. (These were clean pulls from NOS.)
Nostalgia is just not a deciding factor for us. We test and play everything we can find and we offer what performs the best (we went to 9 demo days in 2022) and yeah, we care about looks.
The ‘53 TA Silver Scot 945’s are surely in the “blade” category the industry now uses to sell any iron that isn’t in this marketing department manufactured category, but we’ll save that discussion for a different piece of “content.” For now, please take a look at the top lines and amount of offset here - are either “scary?”
Macgregor (Toney Penna and friends) did not really make a muscle back iron (more weight at bottom of club) until Mr. Penna left and they opened their custom shop. So, call these what you’d like.
The @no1grip_usa grips were made in 2023, the @bbandfco ferrules were made in 2022.
